Summary

This section shifts the perspective yet again. Now, the story has transitioned into what appears to be the present day. The Pratt family is introduced. Ed and Emily Pratt are nearing retirement and begin to make plans to sell their house and travel the states after their kids are all away at college. At first, their daughter Abby is reluctant, but the kids come to the understanding that their parents need their own lives as well, and they have been patient for so long. Emily takes up photography classes in her retirement. One day, in the time between when she retires and when Ed retires, she buys a studio's worth of photo equipment from a vendor that is going out of business.

Ed and Emily, when they are both finally retired, travel across the United States in an RV that they have christened...
