The captain leaves and Jakob orders the front door of the house to be locked, bolted and the key brought to him. He orders Tante Sophie to telephone Frans, Pieter's brother, and to tell him to come at once and when that is done to take everything Pieter has ever given them, every likeness and anything to do with him from the house and burn it.
