Summary

On May 22nd, Samuelson arrives at the village with Boyd and Nat’aaggii. He says it took them too long to find the right path until they found Pruitt’s books (which he is thrilled to see that they brought the books with them). Boyd believes he saw his wife in the fog, but Samuelson is just happy to see the others alive and well.

Pruitt writes a transcription between the tyone, Allen, and Samuelson. The tyone believes that the men should turn back if they want to go home. However, Allen is adamant that they continue into the mountains. The tyone doesn’t believe that Allen just wants to explore.
