Summary

In the present, a women’s discussion group meets at Lina’s doctor’s office. A group of eight women meet because “lately they all feel different inside their bodies” (137). Lina tells the group how she waited for three months for her husband, Ed, to touch her. She grows frustrated because “it’s hard to tell other people that it is all your husband’s fault” (140). The women all feel sympathetic for Lina and urge her to leave him. However, their sympathy wanes when she reveals her affair. She talks about how much she loves Aidan Hart, her high school boyfriend. The women have all been drawn in by Lina’s intricate story about what it is like to be truly in love.
