Chapter 8: The Asshole

In the morning Kiera is stunned to see Kellan in the kitchen, but this time he looks terrible. As quietly as she can, she asks if he’s okay and offers him coffee, wondering where he’d gone the night before and if they were still okay. When Denny gets up, Kellan announces he is going to lie down again. After he leaves, Denny asks Kiera if she and Kellan were alright while she was gone and for a moment, she almost tells him. He reminds her that he is without a job now, and plans to start looking immediately.

After he leaves, Kiera gets ready for school. When she returns, Kellan is watching television, and she sits in the living room with him, not wanting the awkwardness between them to continue. He tells her he needs to get...
