Chapters 9 - 12 Summary

In Chapter 9, Mara watches television while she waits for her mother to finish dinner. Instead of local news, however, she sees the pictures of Claire, Jude and Rachel as the news anchor says the girls' bodies were recovered but the body of Jude had not been recovered because portions of the building were still standing, but likely to collapse. When her mother comes in the room, the pictures disappear. Instead, the news anchor is talking about Jordana Palmer, an area tenth grader that has been murdered.

In Chapter 10, Mara sees Noah Shaw in her AP English class the next day when she volunteers to answer a question. Mara becomes bored with the lecture because she has heard it before and instead reads her copy of Lolita. As she gets up, Mara knocks over her chair and Noah picks it up for...
