Max and Diane’s apartment, Super Bowl LVI Sunday, 2022

Most of the novel takes place in the living room of Max and Diane’s apartment located in Manhattan. They are hosting a Super Bowl party for their friends. The urban environment is significant as it is the most vulnerable to technological failures. The apartment is a largely self-contained and isolated setting for the characters to speculate and discuss their mysterious situation and theories. Only Max leaves the apartment briefly to find out information, but even when he returns, he does not share anything with the others. As the night passes, the city becomes enveloped in darkness, and the characters begin to fade into the dark silence.
