Chapters 53-56 Summary

Chapter 53

Emond's Field has weathered a series of attacks. Loial and Gaul return, telling Perrin they have succeeded in closing the gate, but that at least 1,000 trollocs surround Emond's Field. Perrin enters the wolf dream, travels to the trolloc campsites and confirms the number. Slayer appears, shooting an arrow at him. Perrin runs, but turns and sets a trap. He manages to get an arrow into slayer's chest, and the man disappears.

When he awakens, Perrin is told that Lord Luc left town, clutching his chest. Perrin, desperate to get Faile clear of what he suspects will be a losing battle, asks her to go to Caemlyn to convince Morgase to send forces to help repulse the trollocs. Faile agrees to go, but only on the condition that she and Perrin wed, which they do.
