Summary

Chapter 33 is “Dill.” Anne Marie stops by Dill's house, and they talk briefly about Travis. Dill says Travis loved his mother, and she thanks Dill for being Travis's friend. She is obviously leaving town. He gives her Travis's staff. The next day, Dill finds he cannot get out of bed. His mother urges him to turn to God, but Dill says God has abandoned him. His mother pledges to pray.

In Chapter 34, “Lydia,” Lydia goes to pick up Dill, but he does not come out or answer his phone. She goes inside and is appalled at the condition of the house. He reveals that Anne Marie is leaving town and that he gave her Travis's staff. She approves. She suggests they skip school and go on a road trip, but he refuses.
