Molly

Molly is the novel’s protagonist. She works as a paleobiologist, meaning she discovers and examines plant fossils. At the time of the novel, she works at a dig site near her house, so she can return to her home every evening. She is married and has two young children. Her husband, David, is often out of town for work, meaning Molly is unfortunately saddled with the bulk of the parental responsibilities. She often worries about the wellbeing of her young children, both in terms of their physical safety and emotional stability.

After the sudden, strange appearance of Moll (Molly’s double from a parallel universe), Molly fears that Moll will harm her or the children.
