Part 3, Meet Crazy Eddie: Chapter 31, Defeat Summary

It's a battle to the finish. Rod is determined to stay with the MacArthur until she is destroyed but the Admiral doesn't allow this. Rod is now the most valuable person in the system and may be the only Navy officer who has any chance of devising a way to protect the Navy from this type of infestation in the future. The two men finally reach an agreement. Potter, Whitbred, and Staley are sent back to MacArthur to set the self-destruct torpedoes for detonation. The men end up fighting their way though the ship and must take to lifeboat pods to escape the dying ship at the last minute. The pods are highly adapted by the Moties, who may not be trustworthy, but it's the only choice.
