Summary

Chapter 12

Luke finishes ninth in Saturday's rodeo. His mother does not respond to the text that he sends her. The following day, Luke has breakfast with his mother and tries to hide his injured knee. His mother notices anyway. They discuss the pumpkin sales the previous day before beginning the day’s work. Luke works helping his mother sell pumpkins and helping young kids through the hay bale maze.

Chapter 13

As Sophia gets ready for her dinner with Luke and his mother, Marcia warns her that she is on the rebound and that she or Luke will eventually get hurt. This leaves Sophia in a dark mood as she drives to Luke’s, something he notices immediately. Sophia brushes it off and Luke lets her.
