Section 9: Chapter 17 and 18 Summary

In Chapter 17: Michigan, July 1999, Mike waits until 2 A.M. before sneaking over to Amelia's house where he finds the back door and the door to Amelia's room unlocked, causing him to worry it's a setup since it seems too good to be true. When Amelia looks at Mike's drawing of her as a mermaid, she is amazed and asks how he knew she has always had a thing about being a mermaid before inviting him to kiss her. After they make love, she tells him it is ridiculous for him to sneak into her room in the middle of the night anymore, even though she likes it. The next morning, Mike fears Amelia will tell him it is all a mistake, but when he arrives, he does not see her, though there is a strange car in the driveway...
