Section 4: Chapter 8 and 9 Summary

In Chapter 8: Connecticut, January 2000, the security guard handcuffs Mike to the sink while he checks on his partner, Ron. Seeing how simple the handcuffs are, Mike cuts a thin strip of aluminum from a soda can and uses it to pick the lock on the handcuffs. He runs out of the house and cuts through the woods. At the train station, he asks a cab driver to take him to the city, acknowledging that it will be expensive. During the ride, he worries the dispatcher will call with his description, but he returns safely to his room where he finds the white pager beeping.
