Part 1: Chapter 16: The Cave and Chapter 17: Angeline Summary

For a while, Charlie sleeps and wakes disoriented and in the dark. Then he remembers the cave. He sits up slowly and assesses himself. Though sore, it appears as though nothing is broken. The darkness is complete, and as he reviews recent events in his mind, he recalls taking the keyring with the small flashlight attached to it. He looks up to the area he fell from and sees that there is no way back the way he came without a rope. The only other choice is a passage through the rock, and though his mind balks, he knows there is no other way. He turns off the flashlight after getting his bearings to preserve the battery. He makes his way to the entrance and shuffles carefully into it. He has a moment of panic...
