Part 1: Chapter 8: The Black Square and Chapter 9: Lunch Summary

Charlie runs for the black square, hoping it is a window or at the very least, a way out. Two middle eastern looking men carrying machine guns are close behind as Charlie throws himself headlong through the black square. The guards begin firing their AK's as Charlie connects with the ground. The sun is so bright that he feels a surge of joy and hope but he can't stop to appreciate the fact that he is out. He crouches and looks around, taking note of the engine he hears running. Charlie manages to grab the window of the truck and pull himself inside. After a brief scuffle with the driver, Charlie takes his gun from him and orders him to get out. He hits the gas and races for the partially open gate, taking fire that barely misses him.
