Chapters 15 and 16 Summary

The demigods and wild spirits battle the armies of Kronos to their best abilities, but the numbers are simply overwhelming. Soon, Kronos has pushed the defenders into a tight ring around the Empire State Building itself, the defenders completely surrounded. Just as it seems that all is lost, Chiron shows up with somewhere around five hundred centaurs from around the nation. Kronos army is surprised and turned aside, and Kronos once again retreats for the day.

Percy is magically transported to a birthday party somewhere in the Midwest. Dionysus explains to Percy that the gods need them to defend Olympus on their own. He explains that the gods, as manifestations Man's beliefs, need humanity to believe in them enough and care enough to defend them. He warns Percy to beware the coming surprises, and sends him on his way.
