Summary

In Chapter 8, “Secrets,” Owen is shocked by Sinia's acceptance. Roux strongly objects. Sinia thanks Roux for his loyalty, but says she sees the benefit of allying herself with Ceredigion through marriage to Owen. She then invites Owen to remain in the kingdom for a few days. Owen reaches out to Sinia with his Fountain power and discovers she is Fountain blessed. She does not resist the magical touch. Owen realizes that she is “as vulnerable as a sparrow” (69). Sinia leaves the room, saying she will talk to Owen the following day. Owen angers a servant with his continued rudeness.
