Chapter 16

The next day, Elayne is in the common room of the inn in which she, Nynaeve, Thom, and Juilin are staying, when she is approached by her half brother Galad, who was present at the battle that split the White Tower; Galad is now wearing the uniform of a Whitecloak captain. He urges her to let him escort her back to Caemlyn for her own safety. Elayne says she needs no escort, but Galad begins watching her movements and Elayne tells Nynaeve that they will have to sneak out of town or Galad will do whatever he has to do to ensure her safety, even arrest them.

Chapter 17

Elayne, Nynave, Thom, and Juilin sneak out of town and approach Valan Luca, the owner of the circus, and offer to be his patrons if he will let them travel with him...
