Jared Grace

Jared is the main character in the story because he leads the effort to find out about the creature haunting the old house where the Grace family moves. He is a boy of nine and has a twin brother named Simon. Jared has been very angry since his father abandoned the rest of the family and had been getting into fights at his old school. Jared is kind of brave, and because he goes up in the dumbwaiter to the concealed library, gets a note with a poem-clue about what is really going on in the house. He uses the clue to find the field guide book that describes faeries in the neighborhood. Jared is suspected of pulling nasty pranks on his sister Mallory and twin brother Simon.
