Summary

In Part Three, Chapter 16, Danny returned to Jenkintown after hearing about Maeve's heart attack. Elna was at the hospital when Danny arrived. Danny was furious Fluffy told her Maeve was sick, fearing Elna’s presence would worsen Maeve's condition. Danny suddenly felt his father always loved Maeve, his work to keep Elna from her a sign of his true care.

Maeve, however, was ecstatic to see Elna. She begged Danny to be kind, but Danny remained bitter. Fluffy insisted they needed to see one another before Maeve's death. In the waiting room, Jocelyn, Fluffy, Danny, and Elna talked. Elna described her work in India, her frustrations with living in the Dutch House.
