Summary

In Part Two, Chapter 12, after finishing his residency, Danny felt relieved and happy. Months later he finally heard from Fluffy. Having had little memory of her, he expected little from their encounter.

At the cafe, she remarked at his likeness to Cyril. She went on to explain her relationship with his father. The two slept together for years, causing Fluffy to hope for their eventual marriage. When she suggested as much to Cyril, he squashed the idea, causing Fluffy much distress. Eventually, she even revealed that she Elna was alive.

Having believed his mother dead for years, Danny was shocked. Fluffy said they caught up after she saw her on the street in New York. She confessed she did not know where Elna was living, and lamented not having contacted Danny sooner. She did not believe it prudent to mention Elna...
