Chapters 1: The Hunt and 2: Unintended Consequences Summary

Han and Dancer go to the sulfur pits to collect rare sulfur lilies but finding only three they decide to head to Burnt Tree Meadow to hunt fellsdeer. A dozen are grazing there but above them a purple and green fire is burning. The fellsdeer run, escaping their arrows, and Han and Dancer are forced to dodge the flames behind a rocky prominence. The fire roars past and three riders follow on expensive horses. Micah Bayar, their leader, tells them they are on Queen's orders to drive the fellsdeer down to her hunting party below. Han argues, and Dancer questions Micah's underage use of an amulet, recognizing him as a Charmcaster or Wizard.
