Summary

In Chapter 30, Ruby remains in the office until the gunfire stops. She is in the process of locking Clancy in the closet when Cate arrives. Instead of asking how Ruby is, as she usually does, Cate helps. They go to the atrium where the other children are. The guards who fought the rescuers were killed but Cate says some of the guards were only caught up in the revolt without a way out, and they all gave up without a fight. Ruby sees Cole and wonders why he is so different from every other kid she has met with red abilities. All the others have been violent and unhinged, often unable to control themselves or their power. Cole has thrived. Cole says he was 12 when he knew he had power. Ruby asks why he has never told Liam, but Cole refuses to say...
