Chapter 5 Summary

Harry dresses carefully for court and is just leaving as Sylvia shows up at the door. They kiss and he holds her, thinking about how he was the investigator in her husband's murder. The attraction was immediate. They'd progressed to a comfortable place in their relationship, but Harry is still afraid one day she'll leave. Sylvia wants to be in court to support Bosch, but Harry discourages her. They talk for few moments and leave, Bosch heading for court and Sylvia to her job as a teacher.

Chandler asks for sanctions against Detective Bosch and his lawyer because of an article in the Times regarding the newest body. Judge Keyes questions Belk, who claims no prior knowledge, and Harry confirms to have had no opportunity to share the information with his lawyer as yet.
