Summary

In 47: Stella’s Star Sentinel, Stella writes an article titled “The Elements” that explores the concepts of “Earth. Water. Air. Fire” (304). After explaining each one, she adds “Truth. I think that is the last basic element” (305).

In 48: Just Plain Joy, Stella runs the kitchen in preparation for Christmas, which is two days away. As Mama is recovering, Stella is taking her place as the head of the household. When Papa goes off to work, Stella, Jojo, and Mama use popcorn, chicken feathers, pinecones, and buttons to decorate the Christmas tree.
