In Chapter 5 Jack Starbright, Alex's young female housekeeper, arrives in Sydney to bring him back home to London, but he has to stay until his Australian visa is straightened out. They go to a place they think is the visa office, but the room they enter is obviously not an office. Here they meet Ethan Brooke and Marc Damon of the ASIS. Brooke offers Alex a proposition to help an agent in Bangkok by posing as a refugee child. The agent is Ash, who goes by only that name. These are his initials, ASH, and he never divulges his full name. At first Jack speaks for Alex, and then she lets him tell the two men that he would think about the proposition and get back to them.
