Chapter 14 Summary

The next couple of days are a whirlwind of social events and celebration. Kel talks to Zane about her duties as flight leader. He asks about children being the prize of the avian. Kel explains that purebread children are rare and miracles. She says that mixed-blood children, however, are typically warped by the magic and it makes them go crazy. This usually leads to them destroying everything around them and then killing themselves, so they typically dispose of mixed-blood children before this can happen.

She tells Zane that she has sensed falcons in their marketplace but none with the power that would send Syfka to look for it. Zane asks if a falcon having a child in their land could be what the Empress seeks. Kel says the empress would have sent someone besides Syfka if that was the case.

Suddenly, falcons descend...
