Chapter 12 Summary

When they escort Kel to the courtyard to hand her over to Safka, her appearance ripples and transforms from Erica into a woman a few years older. When Safka sees Kel, the two women start to argue. Syfka claims she isn't there to find Kel and that the empress no longer cares about her. Syfka also mentions something about Danica's baby being as much of a mongrel as Kel's partner's baby. Syfka exiles Kel from the city. She also promises that someone else will be back to finish the search for the falcon they are really after. Then, Syfka flies off.

Kel questions why Syfka would leave her behind after what she said and what Kel did. They say it's because Syfka believes the greatest punishment is being exiled from the avian city. Rei tries to resign as the leader of the Royal...
