Chapter 7 Summary

That night, Danica and Zane decide to go their separate ways. Zane has dinner with his sister, Irene, his brother-in-law, Galen, and his nephew, Salem. Galen leaves the table early because he had been bitten by a petulant baby snake earlier. While it's not deadly, it's still unpleasant. While Irene is holding Salem, he is changing back and forth between a human and a cobra. Zane asks his sister outright how she would feel if Salem was heir to the throne.

She says she would rather lose her firstborn to the throne than get torn apart by the hate of war. She also assures Zane that they have months to decide what to do.
