Point of View

The novel is written in the first person point of view. The narrator is Rose Hathaway, a dhampir girl who attends St. Vladimir's Academy to train to become a guardian to a Moroi vampire. Rose has a mental bond with her best friend, Lissa, and will become Lissa's guardian upon graduation. As part of this mental bond, Rose can enter Lissa's mind and see things through her eyes, allowing the narration to slip into the third person point of view during these moments.

The point of view of this novel works well because it allows the reader to be drawn closely in to the emotions and thoughts of the main character.
