Stakes

The seniors of St. Vladimir's undergo a six week long test as guardians in this book. During the test, the future guardians are given fake stakes to kill the fake Strigoi. Later, the guardians carry silver stakes to kill Strigoi by stabbing them in the heart.

Wards

There are special wards around the academy that are made with all four elemental magics that are designed to protect the school from Strigoi. However, these wards are compromised by the malicious use of magic from a secret group of Moroi and allow the Strigoi onto the academy grounds for an attack.
