Summary

In Chapter 1, Judy begins carrying her dog, Charlotte, in a baby sling in the fall. She has decided to declutter her basement and wants to hold her dog close. She has a thirteen- year-old son named Teddy and she misses being able to treat him like a baby. While she sifts through Teddy’s old clothes and toys, she feels empty and nostalgic. When she finds the sling, Judy wants to fill it with something. When she goes back up to the kitchen, Judy gets a rush of inspiration to put her dog into the baby sling. Charlotte brings Judy comfort and stability.
