Chapter 13 - Ugly Realities Summary

In Chapter 13, Charlotte wakes Dawn up the following morning. She goes to the bathroom but finds there is no tub or shower. There is also no hot water. She is provided only with a hard lump of soap, a washcloth and a towel. She has no comb or brush. On the way to the kitchen, Dawn notices how run down and dirty the inside of the house is. Breakfast is a bowl of oatmeal, a piece of toast and an orange. Dawn is also given a list of rules including the parts of the house to which she is restricted. She is also given a list of chores including building the fire and setting the table each morning for breakfast, then cleaning up the kitchen afterward including scrubbing the floor.
