Incarceron is the name of the prison. It also represents that world that exists outside of the realm and the other side of the portal. The way the author portrays Incarceron in the novel, it is not only a building. Incarceron also seems to have its own spirit, soul and voice. The world outside of Incarceron is filled with poverty and disease. If the realm is the world of good, then Incarceron represents the dark and evil side of the world.
