Chapter 1 Summary

Attia is a small young woman. She is making her way through the crowd that is assembled in front of a platform, where a magician, the Enchanter, is hosting a show. The platform is set up in front of the prison. When Attia arrives at the front of the stage, she sees that the Enchanter is wearing the glove of Sapphique and like the character Sapphique, the Enchanter is missing his pointer finger on one of his hands.

The Enchanter chooses three volunteers from the audience. One of the volunteers he chooses is Attia. He predicts Attia is waiting for someone by the name of Finn who has gone away to return. He says that Finn promised to return but that he hasn't. then, he plunges a sword into Attia, to take her to death.
