Summary

Prologue – A little boy wanders a carnival, seeking out the last tent. There, a man promises the little boy the thing he wants most of all, which is control.

Chapter 1 – Dan Crawford attempts to contact his friends Abby and Jordan about a memory manipulation expert. They do not respond. In the hall after class, he sees his friends Missy, Tariq, and Beckett. They invite him to see the student production of “Macbeth,” but he declines. He decides to try to find Abby and Jordan. He has shared a lot with them, including having stayed in the old haunted Brookline Asylum-turned-student dormitories for the New Hampshire College Preparatory School (NHCPS) the previous summer. Dan believes Daniel Crawford, the twisted warden of the asylum, was his ancestor. It is a mystery yet to be solved. At home, Dan’s mom urges him to remain focused...
