The Third Day: Sickness in the Dirt Summary

Esche has difficulty sleeping, and wakes up continually because she's worried about the pregnancy. She is even more sick the next morning, and remains in bed reading mythology, until Skeetah comes in to show her to one of the puppies who has gotten sick. Skeetah believes the puppy has parvo, which is fatal. He is worried that the rest of the dogs will catch it. He's been trying to force China to feed it, but China has kept fighting it off, expecting it to die. Esch agrees to camp out with Skeetah overnight. Meanwhile, Daddy has been preparing for the hurricane with Junior. When Junior comes into the shed and sees China with the sick puppy, he gets upset that Skeetah wants to separate it to keep it from infecting the other dogs. Skeetah plans...
