Summary

On a weekend trip to visit family members, Maya was attacked by her aunt for her drug use, and she had to speak to all her relatives about the progress she was making in her life. Upon returning, a sense of dread pervaded her when she was told that she would be allowed to leave the facility in a few weeks. She felt unprepared to do so. Once out, she remained stable for a while but stopped her antidepressants since they prevented her from achieving orgasm. With Douglass gone, another of Elizabeth's friends, Val, moved in. Though he paid Maya early on, his money dried up and he leeched off her like Douglass. She continued to do more than five bags of dope a day, and continued to see various men.
