Epilogue Summary and Analysis

It is now the present-day and Slim is reflecting on how a person like himself ever got sober and clean and is now living a legal life. He thinks the answer lies in his beautiful wife Catherine and their two children, a boy and a girl. He is a great salesman, but is still influenced by being a black man in a white society. All in all, though, Slim admits he has come a long way since his pimping days.

Slim's story is ultimately one of redemption and renewal. He has a rough childhood and grows up in a bad environment. Slim makes all of the wrong decisions growing up and becomes an immoral pimp, but in the end, he forgives his mother and finds a wife and has two children with her.
