Chapter 9: The Butterfly Summary and Analysis

Blood wakes up and asks Runt about her work last night. She tells him about 2 white police officers that roughed her up, making her too scared to walk the streets (thus not earning much money.) He shows no sympathy for her problems and sends her out to work again. As soon as she leaves, he calls Chris, the former hooker he saw walking down the hall with her husband Leroy. He is very jealous and she is reluctant to go visit Blood across the hall while Leroy is away. She agrees when Blood asks the front desk person Silas to warn them when Leroy is on his way up. While in Blood's apartment, Chris tries cocaine for the first time and they talk. Chris tells Blood her entire life story. Leroy discovers their rendevous and immediately moves her to another city...
