Chapter 18 Summary

After Delphi leaves and the guards are taking Pitt and Giordino to the surface, Pitt asks Summer to walk with them. Giordino, feigning unconsciousness, knocks out the guards. Summer tells Pitt she loves him and will help them. He wants to know where Adrian is. Summer takes them to Adrian's room, next to hers. The seamount shakes as the missiles from the Monitor hit the water. They escape through Summer's room and the tunnel, as the seamount begins to flood. They are met in the room at the end of the tunnel by an armed Delphi. Just then the ceiling cracks and they are buried in falling rocks. Giordino blocks Delphi's gun, saving his friend's life. As they start to prepare to go to the surface, Summer says she can't go and wants to stay where her mother and father are buried. Pitt thinks he talks her into following, but...
