Chapter 4 Summary
The next morning Dirk is awakened by his boss, Admiral James Sandecker, Chief Director of the Naval Underwater and Marine Agency, who has flown out from Washington. He informs Pitt that he is on special loan to the Navy, by special request of Admiral Hunter. In the past thirty years the Navy has documented thirty-eight ships missing in the area where the Starbuck disappeared. Sandecker tells Pitt that he made himself a security issue by reading the log before turning it in and he's a sitting duck for any foreign government wanting to find the sub.
Chapter 4 Analysis
Dirk is obviously into things he never even thought of. His encounter with Summer is beginning to reveal to Dirk, that he never even took seriously the part about the foreign government or what information they would want from him, even though she told him the syringe held a truth serum.
