Chapters 59-67 Summary

Odd ties up Eckles, takes his gun, and makes his way into the department store behind which the security offices are located. Halfway through, Odd sees Viola. Viola has been buying roller blades for her daughter's birthday. Odd directs her to go back the way he has come as quickly as she can. Odd then makes his way out of the department store and into the mall's promenade. Almost immediately, Odd can hear gunfire. People begin screaming, running toward Odd or hiding in the stores that line the corridor. Odd keeps walking, looking for the gunman. Varner appears, walking calmly down the corridor, firing his gun with no clear purpose. As Odd watches, Varner fires his weapon at Burke and Bailey's, vaporizing the glass storefront. Odd tells himself not to worry, that he and Stormy are meant to be together forever...
