Summary

Chapter 18 begins with the last day that Alex saw Darlington. Darlington tells Alex to meet him at Rosenfeld Hall, the former tomb of St. Elmo’s, a now disbanded society. The building had been used to perform weather rituals in, so a storm has made its way back into the building. Darlington and Alex’s job is to stop the loose magic from creating a power surge.

It only takes a few minutes for Alex and Darlington to rid of the storm. As they converse, Darlington hears something breathing. In the corner of the building, he sees a portal and realizes that the breathing sound is the air rushing out of it.

Darlington prepares to seal the portal when Alex says something about her friend Hellie. He recalls that Hellie was one of Alex’s friends who was found dead. Darlington ponders the...
