In the aftermath of the disastrous birthday party, Bella is sluggish and sore. When she meets Edward at school, she senses something is wrong, though all he tells her is that Alice and Jasper have gone away for a while. He says that Alice is trying to convince Jasper to go away to Denali, where a family similar to the Cullens lives. All during school and afterward, Edward is acting very distant.
