Chapter 3, The End Summary

In the aftermath of the disastrous birthday party, Bella is sluggish and sore. When she meets Edward at school, she senses something is wrong, though all he tells her is that Alice and Jasper have gone away for a while. He says that Alice is trying to convince Jasper to go away to Denali, where a family similar to the Cullens lives. All during school and afterward, Edward is acting very distant. Bella asks him to come visit her after work, but when he leaves, she feels a wave of panic. She feels completely responsible for driving the Cullen siblings away and vows that she would try to stay away from their house to avoid any further trouble. She convinces herself that Alice and Jasper will return, as will Emmett and Rosalie.
