Viola Eade

Viola Eade is the heroine of the novel as she tries to encourage to people to seek peace instead of war. She is one of the settlers who intended to make their home on the New World. Apparently she and her parents were sent to explore the New World but their scout ship blew up when it landed. Viola was the only one who survived.

Viola has fallen in love with Todd Hewitt, a native of the New World. Together they fight against the tyrannical Mayor from becoming the leader of the New World. During one of the first battles between the humans and the Spackle, Viola fires a missile on the Spackle from the scout ship because she believes that Todd has been killed.
