Tally Summary

Pitt enters the offices of The Bureau not in military uniform and is curtly dismissed by The Director's secretary. Angry, Pitt strikes his cane on her desktop and gives her his full title and accepts her immediate invitation to enter the office. Inside Pitt meets The Director for the first time, introduced to him by Inspector Zacynthus. The Director asks Pitt how he figured out that the submarine was attached to the ship and Pitt explains how he doodled in the sand and the idea just became more and more plausible to him, requiring that he do additional investigating to prove his theory. Zacynthus then relates the final details of the capture of the Queen Jacosta and the submarine in Galveston harbor, and determining the location of the exact cannery because of a prior shipment of sugar, often used to cut pure heroin...
