chapter 5-6 Summary

Martin Longbow, the huntmaster, Garret, and a former Tsurani slave named Charles bring news to Prince Arutha about the Tsurani that camp outside the kingdom. Arutha knows that the Tsurani are slowly winning the war. Charles has found that the flags flown by the Tsurani have changed and the new family emblem on them tells him that there will be about ten thousand more Tsurani coming to fight the war in the spring. Charles tells them that the conduct of the war to the Tsurani is more of an aspect of a political game than anything else. Prince Arutha, younger son of Duke Borric, decides he must go to try and get more troops to come from King Earland in Krondor. Squire Roland must say goodbye to Princess Caroline to go see his father in a different direction than Prince Arutha...
