This novel exists in an alternate reality in which vampires have come out of hiding and are asking for the government to accept them as a new class of citizens. In this reality, people have believed for many years that vampires are only a piece of fiction, creatures created in someone's imagination. However, some of these vampires have come forward, tired of living in secrecy, and have asked to be recognized. This causes a great deal of concern among humans, especially when most humans are under the impression that vampires need to kill humans in order to survive.
